Announced at Microsoft Ignite 2025, this is the biggest Copilot update of the year. Microsoft is now introducing a more personalised experience for users across Microsoft 365. These new updates include everything from creating documents and PowerPoint slides with ease to speaking directly to Copilot when you need a hands-free option. With smarter agents and voice integration, Copilot is becoming more intuitive and designed to fit seamlessly into the way you work every day.

Why have these changes been made?

Microsoft has introduced these new changes to put a stronger focus on Copilot, responding to the growing demand for AI tools in today’s market. With AI solutions becoming increasingly popular, Microsoft aims to help workers and everyday users save time by reducing repetitive manual tasks. In the past, Copilot and its agents handled tasks like email writing effectively, but there were limitations in areas such as content creation and data analysis. These latest updates overcome those challenges by introducing smarter solutions and new tools to enhance productivity. For brand new changes, there are now improvements in content creation. Microsoft has also put a focus on updates for communication features, including new additions in apps like SharePoint.

What has changed?

Copilot Business for SMBs

Microsoft has introduced a new option called Microsoft 365 Copilot Business, designed for customers who would typically use Business Standard or Business Premium. With this plan, Copilot is no longer an add-on but is now integrated at a lower price of $21 per user per month compared to the previous $30 per user per month when purchased separately. This makes advanced AI features more accessible and affordable for small and midsize businesses.

New Agents for Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Word Agent: Copilot now has an agent built into Word. This agent will allow you to give Copilot Chat a simple prompt about a topic and it will then create a full document for you, saving time on writing from scratch.

Excel Agent: The new Excel Agent focuses on data analysis. It can be used to turn your data into charts, provide insights or give summaries of what the data is explaining. This new agent will be ideal when sharing information with others as it is simpler to understand.

PowerPoint Agent: The PowerPoint Agent helps you build presentations from a simple prompt. It does not just give you the content but will create the full presentation for you with visual designs, saving time on layout and formatting.

Agent Mode added to apps: Similar to the new agents, Agent Mode has now been added to PowerPoint, Excel and Word. Unlike the agents, it will not create a full presentation or document from scratch but it works inside the app to help with editing and visual designs that match your company’s branded templates. Agent Mode can assist with slide creation in PowerPoint and formatting in Word and Excel while still using your organisation’s data to keep everything consistent.

Outlook updates: Outlook now has voice integration. You can use it to draft replies and summarise emails you have received. This voice integration will also let you organise your inbox and schedule meetings through Copilot. A key benefit of the meeting scheduling feature is that it can help resolve any conflicts in your calendar by automatically finding alternative times, rescheduling flexible meetings and notifying everyone of the changes.

Work IQ enhancements: Copilot will now have conversational memory. This means when giving new details or updates to Copilot it will provide relevant and personalised answers as it will still hold memory from previous chats or information you have previously given it. With SharePoint, Copilot can now give you more accurate answers when you ask about documents or files. It uses metadata and organisational context to understand what you are looking for so instead of just pulling a file name it can provide detailed information and insights based on the content and structure of your SharePoint libraries.

Voice in Copilot: With this new update you will be able to speak to Copilot directly. This can be useful for workers on the go as it gives them a hands-free method of using this tool.

Copilot Notebook: Copilot has introduced an overview page for notebooks, giving you a centralised hub for all your active notebooks. It also includes a Video Overview feature, allowing you to create quick summaries of your notebook content and share them easily. This makes collaboration more interactive.

Sora 2 Integration: Copilot has now focused on AI video creation. Using OpenAI’s Sora 2 model, you can generate short video clips from natural language prompts or replace stock footage with AI-generated content. This can be useful for making quick demos or helping save time for your company’s marketing team.

How Will This Impact Your Business

All these new features and updates have been designed to help your business with content creation and overall productivity for employees. Having Copilot integrated into the most used day to day applications means it will not only benefit one department but will have an impact across several. A major change is for SMBs because they now have a more affordable and accessible way to use Copilot through the new Copilot Business plan which is priced at 21 dollars per user per month compared to the previous $30 add-on cost. This makes it easier for smaller organisations to scale without complexity and gives them the same powerful AI tools as larger enterprises. From drafting documents and analysing data to creating presentations and even generating videos with Sora 2 these updates will help businesses save time, reduce costs and work smarter across every team.
