On the 9th March, Microsoft introduced Microsoft 365 E7, a new top‑tier enterprise licence.
This has been designed to help customers move beyond AI trials and deploy AI securely across the business. Also known as the “Frontier Suite”, E7 brings productivity, Copilot AI, identity, and security together in one licence.
For partners, E7 represents a new upsell motion, a clear AI maturity milestone, and a strong opportunity to lead higher-value conversations around governance, security, and agent-based AI.
What is Microsoft 365 E7?
Microsoft describes E7 as enabling a human-led, agent-operated enterprise, where AI works across email, documents, meetings, spreadsheets and business applications, while IT and security team retain full visibility and control. This is all delivered as one governed platform that is designed for organisations that want AI to act securely, not just generate content.
What is included in the Microsoft 365 E7 license:
| Microsoft 365 E5 | The core productivity, security, identity and compliance foundation |
| Microsoft 365 Copilot | AI embedded directly into everyday work experiences |
| Microsoft Entra Suite | Advanced identity and access controls for users, apps and agents |
| Microsoft Agent 365 | A central control plane to govern, observe and scale AI agents |
Why Microsoft 365 E7 Exists
Many organisations are already using AI tools, but most are struggling to move beyond small pilots. According to Microsoft, the real challenge isn’t getting access to AI, it’s governance, security, and trust when AI is used at scale.
Microsoft 365 E7 is designed to close this gap by bringing intelligence and trust together in one suite, allowing customers to confidently deploy and manage AI across the entire organisation.
Unlike previous licensing tiers that mainly focused on adding more features, E7 introduces a new way of working. It enables AI agents to act on human intent, while still giving IT and security teams the visibility, control, and protection they need.
The Role of Agent 365 in E7
A key differentiator of Microsoft 365 E7 is the inclusion of Microsoft Agent 365, which acts as the control plane for AI agents.
Agent 365 gives IT, security and business teams centralised visibility into:
- Which agents exist in the organisation
- How they behave and what data they access
- How they are governed and secured
Agent 365 leverages existing Microsoft security and compliance capabilities, including Defender, Entra and Purview to help organisations deploy and scale agents safely across the enterprise.
This governance layer is critical as customers move from AI assistance to agent-driven execution.
Pricing and Availability
Microsoft 365 E7 will be generally available on 1st May, 2026, priced at $99 per user per month.
Microsoft has positioned E7 as a cost-efficient alternative to purchasing E5 and AI-related add-ons separately, while simplifying procurement and deployment through a single SKU.
What This Means for Partners
For partners, Microsoft 365 E7 creates a clear opportunity to:
- Upsell customers already on Microsoft 365 E5
- Lead AI conversations beyond Copilot into agent governance and security
- Attach advisory, deployment and ongoing optimisations services
Microsoft has also confirmed that Microsoft 365 E7 and Agent 365 will be included in partner promotional offers and incentives, designed to accelerate customer adoption of secure, agent-enabled AI at scale.
This positions partners to move customers from AI curiosity to measurable, production-ready outcomes.
