I’m often asked about Power Platform, why it’s so important to customers in 2022, and how to best discuss these growing technologies with customers.
In this series of blog posts, I’ll be taking a look at each product within the Power Platform stack – here we’ll be focusing on Power Apps.
There are three areas I want us to look at:
1) The continued growth of Low Code/No Code
2) The problems that Power Apps solve
3) The support we have here for you at Vuzion
The escalation of Low Code/No Code
“If the rate of change on the outside exceeds the rate of change on the inside, the end is near.” – Jack Welch, Former CEO of General Electric.
35% of the workforce are already digital-native millennials who demand better experiences when it comes to digital interactions in the workplace, and that sentiment will only continue to grow – which explains why the demand for mobile apps is growing 5x faster than IT departments can deliver.
Add to this the rate at which the demand for online engagements and digitized operations is increasing and we have ourselves a world where it’s not enough for businesses to show resilience through traditional business applications, systems, or processes – particularly any that are still reliant on paper and pen.
So why is low-code the solution? Well, Gartner estimate that by 2025, 70% of new applications developed within and for businesses will use no-code or low-code technologies – up from just 25% in 2020. And driving this development are two key things – 1) the speed of development when using low-code, and 2) the digital skills shortage plaguing the UK market.
It’s time to look at empowering citizen developers to tackle these problems. The majority of businesses need to digitise more processes, and the solutions need to be developed faster and more cost-effectively. Train existing staff to fully utilise these platforms, rather than look to bring onboard a new software developer (who are currently sitting at an average salary of £51k – & that’s continuing to rise).
The change is inevitable. Set the trend, don’t wait to follow it.
What problems do Power Apps solve for customers?
Processes and systems need to modernise, that much is clear.
With the shift to remote work and the changing workforce expectations, the last few years being full of so much incredible instability has only made things more complex and harder for businesses.
This means the need for digital transformation is heightened with 92% of business leaders agreeing (per research done by the Harris Poll), that there is a need to enable digital channels and process automation to flourish in the post-pandemic world – and these are critical to long-term organizational success.
From the same research, we understand that:
- 80% of businesses faced new challenges related to COVID-19
- 60% agree that they need to develop new processes to address a post-COVID reality
- 59% of businesses are facing challenges with keeping operational efficiency i a distributed environment and enabling a remote workforce
Power Apps can be used to solve so many problems. Think about:
- Processes you/your customers have that still rely on pen and paper.
- Why haven’t these been digitised?
- How would automation help here?
- Processes that can be easier/standardised
- Examples could be ticketing systems, holiday requests, purchase order requests.
- Processes that you want to make more visual
- A great example out of the pandemic would be desk booking systems, for when your hybrid workforce want to book a particular space if they’re planning on coming into the office.
There are so many instances where processes can and should be modernised – and it’s easier/quicker/cheaper than you might think.
